Is refacing as good as new cabinets?

For most kitchens, yes — because the parts you see and touch are new. Refacing replaces every door and drawer front, every hinge and handle, and applies a matching veneer to each exposed cabinet frame, so the finish is continuous rather than new doors on old boxes. What stays is the box already built into your wall: the part nobody sees, and the part that takes longest to replace. The result reads as a new kitchen, in the door style and color you choose, in the layout you already have. Where refacing falls short is a box that is failing — swollen under a leaking sink, or with shelves that sag — or a layout you want changed. Those are a remodel, and we will say so at the estimate rather than reface a kitchen you do not want.

How long does a project take?

Three to five days on site for most kitchens. The doors and drawer fronts are made to fit your existing cabinet boxes, so the time in your home is installation rather than fabrication: the old doors come off, the exposed frames are veneered, the new doors and fronts are hung and the hardware is installed. We work one kitchen at a time rather than running several jobs in parallel, and the crew cleans up each evening so the room is usable overnight. Because the cabinet boxes stay where they are, there is no demolition, no month of takeout and no moving out while the work is done — which is most of the difference between refacing and a remodel measured in weeks.

Where are the doors made?

North America, always. Every door and drawer front we install is made in North America, and we do not use doors made overseas — that is a fixed rule, not a preference. It matters more in refacing than in most cabinet work, because the doors and drawer fronts are replaced in full and are the whole of what you see afterwards; where they come from is the largest single quality decision in the job. That holds whether you choose wood, wood veneer or thermoplastic. If you are comparing quotes, ask each contractor the same question directly. The answer is often not on the website, and the price difference between quotes is frequently the answer to it.

Can I keep my existing countertop?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Refacing leaves the cabinet boxes in place, so a countertop you are happy with stays exactly where it is — nothing about the work requires it to come off. You then choose between two offers of the same value. Keep your countertop and take $3,000 off the price of the kitchen. Or take the free quartz countertop instead: choose a new quartz countertop on us, in any of the colors we carry, installed as part of the refacing. An estimate must be scheduled with an installation within 6 months. Countertop max cost up to $3,000. Because the two are worth the same, the decision is about which countertop you want in the room, not about the money.
